Winter Storm: Pacific City, OR
I have a confession to make: I really don’t care for the beach.
With that said the best time, in my opinion, to visit the Oregon coast is during winter storms and in February the Gods delivered. For three days the winds pounded the windows, rain and even snow streaked across the beach, and waves pounded the shoreline.
We spent a great deal of time at the Pelican Brewery, probably the most iconic coastal brewery out there. From the safety behind a pint glass you can watch the storms roll through. Lots of family was there, as well, including both sisters, the Klain clan, and some long lost friends.
Our final day was chilly, still below freezing and with frost and snow lingering in the hills. Even so, we hopped in the driftboat and made our way down the Nestucca river in search of the elusive Steelhead. After some unsuccesful holes and plenty of trout, Steve hooked a steelhead and promptly handed Kim the rod. After a great fight, she landed the steely and cemented her newly found love for fishing.
